7 Signs You Have a Hidden Water Leak (And What To Do About It)
Not every leak shows up as a puddle. Hidden leaks behind walls, under floors or underground can run for months before you notice them.
Watch for these warning signs:
1. A water bill that jumps with no change in how much you use.
2. The water meter keeps moving when every fixture is off.
3. Musty smells, or mold and mildew in corners, closets or basements.
4. Stains, bubbling paint or peeling wallpaper on walls and ceilings.
5. Warped, soft or buckling floors.
6. The sound of running water when nothing is on.
7. Low water pressure that has no clear cause.
Quick test: turn off all water in the house and check your meter. If the dial or digital reading still moves after 15 minutes, you likely have a leak.
What to do: shut off the water to the affected area if you can, and call a licensed plumber. Leaks do not fix themselves, and waiting only raises the repair bill. If other plumbers have told you they cannot find it, call us. Tracking down stubborn leaks is our specialty.
