Stay calm. Do these steps in order.
- Shut off the main water valve. It's usually where the water line enters your home: a basement wall, utility room, or near the water heater. Turn it clockwise until it stops. Some have a lever; turn it so it's crosswise to the pipe.
- Call us at 1-855-475-7827. Tell us where the water is coming from and whether you got it shut off.
- Open a faucet at the lowest point in the house to drain what's left in the lines.
- Keep water away from electricity. If water is near outlets, appliances or the breaker box, don't step in it. Turn off power only if the breaker panel is dry and safe to reach.
- Move what you can: rugs, boxes and furniture out of the wet area.
- Take photos and video of the damage before you clean up. You may need them for insurance.
- Don't try to patch it permanently. A temporary wrap is fine until we arrive.
Can't find your main valve? Call us anyway. We'll walk you through it on the phone.
