Before winter
- Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses; shut off and drain outdoor spigots.
- Insulate pipes in unheated areas: crawlspaces, garages, exterior walls.
- Seal drafts near pipes.
- Know where your main shut-off is.
During a cold snap
- Let faucets drip on exterior-wall plumbing.
- Keep cabinet doors open under sinks on outside walls.
- Keep the heat on, even if you're away. Don't set it below 55 degrees F.
If a pipe freezes
- Turn off the main water valve.
- Open the faucet.
- Warm the pipe slowly with a hair dryer. Never use an open flame.
- If it has burst, or you can't find it, call us right away.
